Is this course right for you?
It is recommended that delegates have a good understanding and experience of Health and Safely prior to attending the course. Please call us on 01603 677107 to discuss the course level and requirements prior to booking.
All unit examinations and the practical assessment must be taken / answered in English only. Therefore to participate in this course, delegates will be required to read, write, speak and understand English. For example, delegates should be able to read and understand conversational and business English.
NEBOSH recommends that delegates undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System score of 6.0 or higher in IELTS tests.
Delegates will need to pass unit NG1*, FC1 & FC2 within a five year period to achieve the overall NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management qualification.
The qualification is divided into three units, each of which is assessed separately. This course covers two of the three units:
Unit FC1: Fire Safety and Risk Management
Managing Fire Safety
Principles of Fire and Explosion
Causes and Prevention of Fire
Fire Protection in Buildings
Safety of People in the Event of a Fire
Fire Risk Assessment
Unit FC2: Practical Fire Risk Assessment
The practical examination is normally carried out at the delegate’s work premises and involves a physical inspection of a workplace to assess the hazards. It is designed to test a delegate’s ability to complete a health and safety assessment and produce a management style report on their findings.
The assignment will be explained during the course by the tutor.
Unit FC1: 29 hours tuition and 24 hours private study Total: 53 hours
Unit FC2: 4 hours tuition and 4 hours private study Total: 8 hours
Your study therefore needs to be based around 33 taught hours and approximately 28 hours of private study.
How is it assessed?
Unit FC1 is a taught unit and is assessed by one two-hour written examination. The examination consists of one 20-mark question and ten 8-mark questions. All questions are compulsory. The papers are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH.
Unit FC2 is assessed by one four-hour fire risk assessment carried out in the delegate's workplace. The written assignment has to be submitted to Jarrold Training within 10 working days (before or after) of sitting the FC1 examination. The assignment is then internally assessed and externally moderated by NEBOSH.
It is the delegate’s responsibility to submit their written assessment within the timescale, any assessments not returned by the deadline will result in the delegate failing this section of the course.
What accreditations will I gain?
Delegates will receive a unit certificate for each unit passed. On successful completion of all units (NG1*, FC1 & FC2), the delegate will receive the overall NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management Qualification Parchment.
Delegates will need to pass all three units within a five year period to achieve the overall qualification. The five year commences from the result declaration date of the first exam.
When all three unit certificates have been awarded (ie, have achieved a Pass in units NGC1, FC1 and FC2), the marks are added together and a final grade is awarded as follows:
Pass 150 - 179 marks
Credit 180 - 209 marks
Distinction 210 marks or more
