This introductory qualification is aimed at anyone who needs to understand the principles of health and safety as part of their job. In the modern workplace, this can mean just about anyone.
The qualification is particularly relevant to:

Delegates need to be proficient in written English to successfully complete the assessments. NEBOSH recommends that candidates undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 5.0 or higher in IELTS tests in order to be accepted onto an Award in Health and Safety at Work programme.

The qualification is divided into two units, each of which is assessed separately:
Unit HSW1: Workplace safety foundations
- The foundations of health and safety
- The responsibility for health and safety
- Health and safety risk assessment and control
- Work equipment
- Transport safety
- Working with electricity
- Fire safety
- Manual handling and repetitive activities
- Hazardous substances
- The working environment
Unit HSW2: Risk Assessment
Assessed by a one hour risk assessment activity, undertaken in your workplace.

This course is assessed through a multiple choice examination and a practical risk assessment which tests the ability to put into practice the knowledge gained during the course.
A qualification parchment will be awarded on successful completion of both units: HSW1 and HSW2.
On successful completion of the 2 units, delegates will receive the NEBOSH Health and Safety at Work qualification.
This qualification has been accredited and credit rated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). It sits in the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) at SCQF Level 5 with 3 SCQF credit points. SCQF Level 5 is comparable to NQF/QCF Level 2 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The 3 day course runs from 9:00am through to 5:00pm. Refreshments are available from 8:45am.
