NEBOSH recommends that delegates undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System score of 6.0 or higher in IELTS tests.
What will I learn?
The qualification is divided into two units, each of which is assessed separately:
Unit EC1: Management and Control of Environmental Hazards
Foundations in Environmental Management
Environmental Management Systems
Environmental Impact Assessments
Control of Emissions to Air
Control of Contamination of Water Sources
Control of Waste and Land Use
Sources and Use of Energy and Energy Efficiency
Control of Environmental Noise
Planning for and Dealing with Environmental Emergencies
Assessed by a question paper exam (one 20-mark question and ten 8-mark questions)
Unit EC2: Environmental Practical Assessment
Assessed by a practical assignment which is normally carried out at the delegate’s workplace and involves an environmental review of a workplace and a justified action plan to improve performance.
The assignment will be explained during the course by the tutor.
Unit EC1: Management and Control of Environmental Hazards - 60 hours
35 hours tuition
25 hours private study
Unit EC2: Environmental Practical Assessment - 10 hours
2 hours tuition
8 hours private study
Your study therefore needs to be based around 37 taught hours and approximately 33 hours of private study.
How is it assessed?
Unit EC1 is a taught unit assessed by a two-hour written examination. The examination consists of ten ‘short-answer’ questions and one ‘long-answer’ question. All questions are compulsory. Candidate scripts are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH.
Unit EC2 is assessed by an environmental review carried out in the delegate's workplace. The written assignment has to be submitted to Jarrold Training within 10 working days (before or after) of the EC1 exam. The assignment is then internally assessed and externally moderated by NEBOSH.
It is the delegate’s responsibility to submit their written assessment within the timescale, any assessments not returned by the deadline will result in the delegate failing this section of the course.
What accreditations will I gain?
Delegates will receive a unit certificate for each unit passed. On successful completion of all units (EC1 & EC2), the delegate will receive the overall NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental Management Qualification Parchment.
Delegates will need to pass both units within a two year period to achieve the overall qualification. The two year commences from the result declaration date of the first exam.
When both unit certificates have been awarded (ie, have achieved a Pass in EC1 and EC2), the marks are added together and a final grade is awarded as follows:
Pass 105 - 124 marks
Credit 125 - 144 marks
Distinction 145 marks or more
