The Health and Safety Management for Construction qualification (CN1) is aimed at anyone (managers, supervisors and workers) in the construction sector. It’s ideal for anyone who needs a broad understanding of construction health and safety issues to be able to manage day-to-day risks effectively.
The CN1 looks at everyday solutions for construction workplace health and safety issues. When you have completed the qualification, you will be able to:
advise on duties and manage construction risks under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015
justify the need for health and safety improvements
produce or contribute to a construction phase plan
help your organisation to manage contractors
positively influence health and safety culture and behaviour
carry out a risk assessment of a construction site and manage a range of construction hazards
recognise workplace changes and their impacts and understand how to minimise these impacts
develop basic safe systems of work that include emergency arrangements and know when to use a permit-to-work system
take part in incident investigations.
Many people take this qualification as a first step in a career in construction health and safety. It gives a valuable overview, and is a sound basis for further professional study.

Following updates to the CSCS Academically Qualified Person (AQP) card scheme criteria, the NEBOSH Health and Safety Management for Construction (UK) qualification is being updated to a Level 7 qualification from 2023. This is to ensure future learners gain a qualification that gives them recognition from CSCS.
Academically Qualified Person CSCS Card
Upon successful completion, delegates will be able to apply for an Academically Qualified Person AQP CSCS card once they have passed the CITB Managers and Professionals Health, Safety and Environment Test.

NEBOSH Health and Safety Management for Construction (UK) is ideal for:

There are no pre-requisites to attend this course. However, it is advantageous that candidates wishing to obtain the NEBOSH National Construction Certificate do have an understanding of the basic practical aspects of the construction industry.
The unit assessment must be taken / answered in English only. Therefore to participate in this course, delegates will be required to read, write, speak and understand English. For example, delegates should be able to read and understand conversational and business English.
NEBOSH recommends that delegates undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System score of 6.0 or higher in IELTS tests.

With an emphasis on practical application, successful learners will be able to:

Your study should be based around 70 taught hours and approximately 40 hours of self-study.
How is it assessed?
The aim of this assessment is for you to practically apply your knowledge and understanding gained from your studies of the CN syllabus. To do this, you will complete an assessment that is an Open Book Examination (OBE) based on a realistic scenario. This will test both what you know and what you can do. You will be asked to carry out a series of tasks using evidence from the scenario and the underpinning knowledge gained through your studies and revision.
You will have 48 hours to download, complete and submit your assessment

Achieving the qualification The CN has one unit assessment; you must achieve a “Pass” to be awarded the qualification.
Re-sitting a unit You can re-sit a unit if you are referred. There is no limit to the number of times you can re-sit a unit.
