This course is suitable for anyone in a management or supervisory role, who has completed the full Managing Safely course within the last 5 years.
It is best practice and industry standards to refresh within five years after completing the 3 day IOSH Managing Safely course. After 5 years, the full 3 day course will need to be completed again in order to keep up to date with current legislation.
The Managing Safely refresher course is designed to provide continued support to managers in dealing with health and safety issues in the workplace. The course covers:
- Revision of key management responsibilities from the Managing Safely course. Delegates reflect on what they took away from the full Managing Safely course. They will also revisit the key reasons for managing safely and recap some of the key terms in an engaging and participative way.
- Leadership: Why leadership is important, and how to create a positive safety culture.
- Plan: Looks at a safety and health policy and what it includes.
- Do: Delegates undertake a risk assessment exercise and then think about the best ways to communicate their findings and the safety and health plan to the workforce.
- Check: Takes a look at data types, what can be measured and how this helps in seeing if ‘the plan’ is implemented and working.
- Act: Looks at why reviewing performance, acting on lessons learned and striving to improve continually is essential. Delegates then reflect on what they have learned and how they will use this in their workplace.
- An interactive case study exercise is used throughout the course to apply refreshed knowledge to the plan-do-check-act model and then link it back to the workplace.
- Update relevant changes in good practice guidance, legislation and standards
At the end of the course there is a closed book assessment. A pass mark of at least 50% is required to enable an Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) certificate to be issued.
All delegates will need to supply their full Managing Safely certificate numbers.
The course runs from 9:30am through to 4:30pm. Refreshments are available from 9am.
