Delegates should hold, or be about to hold, the role of a supervisor.
To attend this course, all delegates are required to read, write, speak and understand English. For example you should be able to read and understand a daily newspaper or magazine and hold a conversation in English.
All delegates are required to bring an acceptable form of photo ID on the first day of the course. Failure to bring ID may result in you not being able to attend the training.
If you already have a SMSTS certificate but it is expiring then you should look to complete the 2 day SSSTS Refresher.

The Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme course is a highly interactive delivered by means of case studies, classroom discussion, group work and individual / group presentations. You will be required to undertake some self-study outside of the course. To successfully pass the course, delegates must:
- Pass the trainer review and
- Pass the end of course exam.
Examination Paper
The paper consists of 25 questions, selected by CITB, covering all aspects of the course and it is taken at the end of the course.
Each exam paper has:
- 22 multiple choice questions (each worth one mark)
- 3 short written answer format (each worth two marks)
There are four safety critical questions in each exam paper. The delegate must answer all four of these questions correctly to pass the exam. The multiple-choice questions are worth 1 point each, whereas written questions can score between 1-3 marks.
The exam pass mark is 80% (24 out of 30)
The examination lasts for 30 minutes and must be completed within this time. Delegates are permitted to use the Construction site supervision (GE706) publication for the last ten minutes of the examination period.
Upon successfully completing the course you will be awarded a CITB Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) certificate.
This qualification must be renewed every five years by attending the SSSTS Refresher course.
The course runs from 8:45am through to 5:30pm for each of the 2 days training. Refreshments are available from 8:45am.
