A Tailored Leadership Programme for Brown & Co
Overview
Brown & Co is a leading provider of professional services across rural, commercial, and residential property, as well as agriculture and the environment. Known for their expert advice and trusted consultancy, they place strong emphasis on building proactive, long-term relationships with their clients and partners.
This commitment to long-term relationships extends to their approach to internal progression and career development. They wanted a way to actively develop emerging talent and grow skilled future leaders.

The Brief
Brown & Co approached Jarrold Training to design this leadership development programme, and as proponents of long-term impact and believers in investing in human capability, we were excited to collaborate with them.
The key outcomes for the programme were:
- Preparing emerging leaders for senior roles
- Strengthening leadership capability across all business locations
- Delivering a consistently excellent learning experience
- Development aligned with Brown & Co’s real culture and strategic priorities
Brown & Co wanted a partner who would take the time to truly understand their business, their people and their culture. A partner who would create something meaningful with true impact.
The JT Approach: Design Through Active Collaboration
Our partnerships are built on open, active collaboration. It takes real courage for an organisation to open its doors and allow us to explore the heart of its challenges and ambitions—and Brown & Co was ready to take that step.
Through in-depth conversations, stakeholder engagement, and a detailed exploration of the organisation’s goals, challenges, and values, we could design a programme grounded in the realities of day-to-day leadership at Brown & Co.
This engagement enabled us to:
- Support both delegates and stakeholders throughout the programme
- Tailor content to specific goals and desired outcomes
- Ensure learning was practical, relevant, and aligned to real business scenarios
The result was a programme that integrated seamlessly into Brown & Co’s company culture.
This programme has exposed me to new ways of thinking about handling people within my team and how their behaviours are often to different to what I would expect. I wish I would have had access to this course earlier in my career. It is a great and really valuable course that every manager should be exposed to. Matt delivered it really well and kept every participant engaged.

The Brown & Co Leadership Programme
The final programme was delivered over six months and included:
- Six face-to-face training days delivered across 12 weeks
- Insights Discovery Personal Profiles for every delegate
- Pre- and post-programme one-to-one coaching sessions
- Multi-disciplinary peer learning opportunities through mixed department cohorts

A strong emphasis was placed on practical application through:
- A live business development or change management project
- Stakeholder analysis
- 360-degree feedback
- Bespoke assignments aligned to ILM Level 5 criteria
Delegates completed a bespoke internally assessed assignment, demonstrating their application of learning and leadership capability to successfully complete the programme.
Previous projects have included developing document templates to improve efficiency and ensure consistent quality, and investing in team development to support cultural change and strengthen internal morale.
For those seeking formal accreditation, there was also the option to achieve a full ILM Level 5 Award in Leadership and Management.
Overall, the programme was designed to:
- Embed application-led learning
- Offer a flexible structure, with accredited and non-accredited pathways
- Reflect real business priorities through bespoke content
- Measure meaningful and relevant impact
Resulting in a comprehensive leadership programme that built capability and supported sustained business performance.
It’s made me more conscious of how I interact with people based on their personality traits and to ensure that I am asking colleagues to do/help with tasks that are within their capabilities and skill level. I am now more self aware, understanding my strengths and shortfalls, identification of areas to improve, feel that I have the techniques in my toolkit to lead with more confidence.

- Improved leadership capability, and demonstrably increased confidence and efficiency
- Direct business impact through the live development projects ranging from operational standardisation to culture & morale development.
- Stronger interdepartmental communication and understanding
- Greater readiness for succession planning and career progression
Overall, the programme reinforced Brown & Co’s commitment to investing in their people and fostering a culture where employees play an active role in the firm’s future development and success.

The variation of the course content and the freedom Matt gave us to relate back to the business we work in was extremely useful and brought the group together. The programme provided me with skills to implement in my own management style at work and in my personal life. A very useful course delivered in a lighthearted manner.
