Blind bowling event in aid of the Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind (NNAB)

Blind bowling at Namco Funscape, BowthorpeElliot, our Sales Manager, is also the Chairman of a local networking group called 25:am. As a result Elliot gets involved in all sorts of activities in the Norfolk and Norwich area.

After being treated last year for a previously undetected genetic condition caused the loss of sight in his right eye, Elliot organised a fantastic blind bowling event for the Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind (NNAB) .

The event was attended by former Norwich City midfielder Jeremy Goss and former City striker Dean Ashton, ex-Canary, Rob Newman together with about 130 other people, including solicitors, bankers and accountants.

It was such a fun event but with a serious side to it. There was an auction, raffle and betting on the number of strikes as well. While the bowling took a lot longer than we expected (why wouldn’t it?) everyone had a great laugh and seeing the faces of people when they removed their blindfold and saw a strike was legendary. So much genuine joy. The blind and partially sighted team won the competition easily with notable success to Dick who at the age of 93 scored 103 and Jeanette scoring the highest on the night with 131. There were 120 people who bowled a game with 43 strikes in total.

In total the event, which was held at the Namco Funscape Bowling Centre, on Wednesday 25th January 2012 and included an auction, has raised more than £3,500

Day one used a vacant floor of our Grade 1 historic St James Mill as the perfect backdrop for the students to work on a real business problem with Elliot and 5 Dragons from Norwich-based business group 25am acting as the head of a company and mentors. Real challenges were set as well as business games and a little theatricality. Day two saw the students present back in the library of Wymondham College in front of a panel of Dragons, their peers in the challenge and two other classes.

New bridge really takes shape

The new Jarrold BridgeThe final piece of the span of the new bridge across the river Wensum was craned into place on Wednesday 9th November.

The bridge, between the new Jarrold office development at St James Place and the St Helen’s Car Park, by the Adam & Eve pub will improve pedestrian access to the city centre and railway station, as well as connecting the site to the city’s cycle routes.

R G Carter, the contractor building the bridge, lowered the final section into place using a huge crane.

The idea for a bridge from the site was conceived by former Jarrold chairman Peter Jarrold over twenty years ago.

It is funded by Jarrold as part of the development of the popular new St James Place business quarter. Further developments on the site will include additional high-quality offices, housing and a 150-bed hotel.

The bridge will be opened officially early in 2012.
